2023 NPN Conference
According to the website, “The purpose of the NPN Conference is to highlight the latest research in the substance use prevention field. It provides a forum for prevention professionals, coalition leaders, researchers, and federal partners to share research, best practices and promising evaluation results for the purpose of integrating research into prevention practice.”
Program Design
This was my first time handling the entire program, including the aesthetic theme, layout, and copy. Past programs varied greatly in look and feel, so for this one, I used the logo colors and aimed to capture a sense of luxury and sophistication without going overboard, as it was still a medical-oriented conference.
I started by sketching out designs for the cover on my iPad. This was my first time doing sketches digitally and it has become part of my workflow as it allows me to use the exact colors, and the client gets a better idea of what the end result will look like.
Throughout the program, I used images of Birmingham as well as circular motifs inspired by NPN’s logo. I also gained my first experience editing copy, shortening descriptions, and fixing grammar issues. Since the program was digital this year, I didn’t have to worry about page spreads or count.
Social Media
Additionally, I was in charge of managing the NPN social media page. Here I tried to make graphics that were consistent with the theme as well as eye-catching. I was also in charge of responding to queries in a prompt and professional manner.
Name Badges and Signage
When designing the signage and name badges, I focused on keeping them consistent with the visual theme. For the name badges, I made the font as large as possible to ensure they were easy to read. I also created 19 signs for the conference, including an 8ft x 4ft display. Lastly, I was responsible for designing the certificates for the event.
