2024 NPN Conference
This conference was one of the coolest I’ve been part of. It was hosted at the Arizona Grand, which had a water park among other things. While it was very hot, I wasn’t complaining too much!
According to the website, “The purpose of the NPN Conference is to highlight the latest research in the substance use prevention field. It provides a forum for prevention professionals, coalition leaders, researchers, and federal partners to share research, best practices and promising evaluation results for the purpose of integrating research into prevention practice.”
Program Design
When coming up with the program design I wanted the overall visual theme to look very sophisticated and luxurious as the venue this year was very nice (and expensive). I decided that I wanted to do an art-deco/modern minimalism design as it would give off the tone I was looking for. Because we were trying to get people to come to Phoenix during the summer I decided to make two of the 3 sketches I did use a cooler color palate so they might not think too much about the ungodly heat. However, the cactus design I made was just too awesome and so the client chose that one. I then made 14 iterations of the design before the client was satisfied. I then made the final program cover in Adobe Illustrator and moved on to the rest of it’s design.
With the inside pages of the program I tried to maintain the modern art-deco theme while keeping it clean and readable. I was also in charge of editing the descriptions, making sure the length and grammar was correct. I also made a custom map of the venue with only the rooms we were using labeled in order to prevent as much confusion as possible.
Venue Items
I aimed to maintain a cohesive theme when designing the signage and name badges. I was also responsible for printing the name badges, so they were kept simple and easy to read. Participants received pens featuring the NPN design, which were practical and well-received. Since the venue spanned multiple floors, we had to supplement the signage by guiding attendees to the appropriate locations. Additionally, I collaborated with the AV team to create branded backdrops for the main stage, which I thought looked really good.
Digital Design
Part of my responsibilities with all the conferences was to maintain the websites including keeping and updated agenda, registration, and archive page. I also designed web banners and email headers as well as the certificates.
